In the past fifteen years, fifteen hundred young lives have violently been cut short. Families have been shattered. and communities remain in turmoil. Hearts are angry and afraid and many have no hope. By the end of this year alone, it is expected that over 100 more young people will be killed in Allegheny County.

The Gathering of Peace is an interfaith rally focused on pittsburgh youth. It will pay ohmage to those who have passed and celebrating a better life through the foundation of peace.

A group of concerned citizens, public safety officials, and community service organizations have announced plans to conduct an anti-violence initiative in response to the climbing homicide rate in both the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.

The Gathering of Peace Rally will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Heinz Field.

Event organizers, sponsors and contributors include the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh (HACP), the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, Parents of Murdered Children, the Western Athletic league and others.

Abouth The Teenie Harris Photo Contest


Teenie Harris Photo Contest

This program is sponsored by the Pittsburgh Housing Authority, Renaissance Three, and Once Vision One Life. The program asks youth to capture in pictures, what is most important to them. 1,000 cameras will be given to youths to explore their world with. The best photo from each youth will be displayed in the City-County Building along with a one sentence description of the photo.

About the Ebony Project

Ebony is a play celebrates the lives of 5 homicide victems in Pittsburgh. It will be performed by the city youth at New Hazlett Theater. 

The youth will also write, direct, and act as stagehands. 

A opening for the play will be held on April 17th at Hazlett Theatre and the play itself will be performed in September.

Perfect Harmony

Perfect Harmony will offer disenfranchised youths opportunities and options in life.

Is a program for the Shuman Juvenile Detention Center.

This program will take 12 youths who have been incarcerated and give them the opportunity to change their lives through education and job placement.

   

Law in Stone

About the Law in Stone Project

PosterLaw in Stone will teach children about the law and how courts function.

The program for Allegheny Public Schools will educate students about the criminal justice process and the life-changing consequences of breaking the law. Local attorneys and judges will explain state laws to students and students will participate in mock trials to experience the criminal court process.

About the City Hall Poets

The Hill House Poetry Group is a poetry program for inner-city youth, taught by members of the Pittsburgh Poetry Society. They will endeavor to teach the youth how to write, create, and perform their poetry in front of an audience. Ultimately an anthology of their best poems will be published each year.
